Found on many older Whirlpool built washing machines, this switch is a safety device preventing operation when the lid is opened. Located on the right side under the top lip of the washer, the switch is actuated by a tab attached to the lid. When the lid is closed, an audible click should be heard from the switch. If not, the switch is likely broken. The common symptom when one of these switches fails is the washer will fill with water, but will not do anything else.
